ACTSandworm Hackers Pivot From Compromised IT Systems Toward Critical OT Assets
New Nozomi Networks research based on telemetry from 10 industrial organizations across seven countries (July 2025–January 2026) found that Russian GRU-linked Sandworm (APT44) is deliberately escalating from IT network intrusion into operational technology and industrial control systems. Unlike typical threat actors, Sandworm increases attack intensity after detection, and in one case a single compromised host targeted 405 internal systems, with researchers identifying an average 43-day early warning window before confirmed escalation.
